Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the speaker controls

Choose Notification speaker in Notifications or the initial alert setup dialog. System default follows your computer’s default output.

  2. 2

    Allow device access

Choose Allow speaker access and read the explanation. Confirm to open the browser's speaker picker where available. Other browsers, including Chrome, require microphone permission to reveal speakers. Corthex stops microphone capture immediately and does not record or transmit it. Camera access is never requested.

  3. 3

    If only System default appears

Allow device access, approve the browser prompt, then choose your speaker from the list. The list updates automatically when devices change or you return to Corthex. If permission is denied, allow it in browser site settings and retry. You can close setup and keep using System default.

  4. 4

    Select the intended speaker

Choose your computer speakers rather than an unused headset. This selection is local to this browser and computer.

  5. 5

    Test the chosen chime

Use Test speaker. Listen physically, check the displayed result and adjust the computer’s volume. A successful browser API call cannot prove the room was audible.

  6. 6

    Check after device changes

Reconnect or disconnect the headset and test again. If a saved output disappears, Corthex reports the fallback to System default.

Good to know

Supported browsers expose different output-selection APIs. If selection is unavailable, use system sound settings.

This controls Corthex’s in-page audio. Native operating-system notification sounds are controlled by the operating system.

Check the result

Use the test controls on the actual computer and speaker you work with. Test a relevant new staff request with Corthex in another tab.

Questions & troubleshooting

The test is silent

Check the selected device, volume, muted tab and browser autoplay restrictions. Click Test speaker again after interacting with the page.

Only System default is listed

Windows having multiple outputs does not grant a website access to them. Choose Allow speaker access. If the browser immediately reports no microphone without showing a prompt, open this site's browser settings and change Microphone from Ask to Allow, reload Corthex, then select and test your speaker. This can expose speakers even without a microphone. If this setting is unavailable or managed, connect a microphone to complete the prompt or choose your browser output through your computer's sound settings.

It switched back to default

The selected output may be disconnected or permission may have changed. Reopen the picker and test the available device.
