Create your first AI agent
Set up a focused assistant, give it a reliable source and verify its first answer before adding it to your website.

Before you begin
Sign in and use the workspace switcher to select the organisation you want to set up. Keep a small set of real customer questions ready for testing.
Step by step
- 1
Choose the right workspace
Use the workspace switcher first. Agents and conversations belong to an organisation; creating an agent in a second workspace does not make it appear in the first.
- 2
Create the agent
Open AI agents and choose New agent. Give it an internal name your colleagues will recognise, such as Returns support — English.
- 3
Define its job
Write instructions explaining who it helps, what it may answer and what to do when information is missing. Choose a model and save.
- 4
Add one useful source
Open Knowledge and add a current FAQ or policy document. Wait for the source to finish processing.
- 5
Test both success and uncertainty
Ask a question answered in that source, a question it cannot answer and a request for a person. Check the sources and escalation behavior.
- 6
Publish a small rollout
Activate the agent, customise Appearance and install its embed snippet on a test page before a wider launch.
Create and launch your first assistant.
Follow this sequence once. The individual guides below explain every choice in more depth.
Before going live: do not rely on a system prompt to invent policies. Add the approved policy as a source, then test questions about edge cases and ambiguous requests.
- Create your account and workspace: Register through Sign up. If you have multiple organisations, choose the right one from the workspace switcher before creating a bot.
- Create a bot: Open Bots, give it a clear internal name and choose the model that matches your speed and quality requirement.
- Add knowledge: Open the bot’s Knowledge area and upload an FAQ, policies or product information. Wait for the source to show as ready.
- Test representative questions: Use the bot chat and Prompt tests with questions your visitors actually ask. Fix gaps in the source material or instructions before publishing.
- Brand and embed: Set display name, language and colours in Appearance, then copy the widget snippet into the page where visitors should find it.
Good to know
A model supplies language and reasoning; your knowledge sources supply business facts. Instructions are not a substitute for a current price list or policy.
Start with one clear role and a few approved sources. Expand after you have reviewed real test results.
Check the result
Complete a test from your public website and check the resulting conversation in Inbox before inviting customers.
Questions & troubleshooting
The answer is invented
Check whether the correct source is Ready, remove conflicting instructions and explicitly tell the agent to admit missing information.
The widget says unavailable
Check the agent is active and that the embedded bot ID belongs to the agent you just created.
