Step by step

  1. 1

    Write a self-contained explanation

Include the subject, rule, conditions and exceptions. Replace ambiguous phrases such as “this product” with the actual product or category.

  2. 2

    Add a text source

Use the text/manual entry option in Add source. Choose a title that describes its scope, such as Returns — custom products.

  3. 3

    Save and process

Save the content and allow processing to finish. When updating an existing text source, edit that source rather than creating a competing copy.

  4. 4

    Retest the boundary

Ask one question that qualifies for the rule and one that does not. Check that exceptions survive retrieval.

Good to know

Keep account credentials, API keys and private staff instructions out of customer-answer sources. Put behavioral instructions in the agent prompt instead.

Check the result

Wait until processing is complete, then ask a question whose answer appears in the source and inspect the answer and citations.

Questions & troubleshooting
