Prioritise sources and add retrieval guidance

Help retrieval prefer the intended material when several sources cover similar topics.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Identify the conflict

Find a real answer that cites the wrong source. Compare both documents before changing priority.

  2. 2

    Set source priority

Use the source’s priority control to emphasise the authoritative source. Do not use priority to preserve an obsolete policy.

  3. 3

    Add retrieval instructions

Explain the source’s scope and appropriate use in the source instructions field. Keep the guidance concrete: “Use for custom-made wooden frames; exclude standard stock items.”

  4. 4

    Save and compare

Repeat the original question and a neighbouring topic. Confirm the change improves relevance without suppressing other needed sources.

Good to know

Priority influences retrieval; it does not guarantee that every answer will cite a particular document. Removing contradictory content is often more effective.

Check the result

Wait until processing is complete, then ask a question whose answer appears in the source and inspect the answer and citations.

Questions & troubleshooting

An instruction is treated as a business fact

Move factual rules into the document and keep retrieval instructions about scope and relevance.
