Change an agent’s internal name
Rename the agent in your team’s list without confusing it with the name visitors see in the messenger.
Before you begin
Open AI agents and select the agent you want to edit. Check its name and workspace before saving: other agents have their own settings.
Step by step
- 1
Open the existing agent
Select the correct workspace, then choose the agent from AI agents. Confirm its current internal name before editing.
- 2
Edit Name
Replace the Name value with a short, useful team label. Include the purpose or language if you manage several agents.
- 3
Save the agent
Use the form’s save action and wait for success. If saving fails, keep the form open and correct any highlighted required fields.
- 4
Verify the distinction
Return to the agent list and confirm the new name. If the visitor-facing name also needs changing, edit Display Name separately in Appearance.
Good to know
Renaming does not create a new embed ID. Your installed snippet can continue pointing at the same agent.
Example: use Acme — Returns — EN internally and Acme Support as the public display name.
Check the result
Save, start a fresh test conversation and compare the answer with your approved business facts. Settings do not rewrite messages already sent.
Questions & troubleshooting
The widget still shows the old name
Check Appearance → Display Name. A configured public name takes precedence over the internal name.
I renamed the wrong agent
Open it again and restore the previous label; confirm the bot ID before further edits.
