Use AI assistance while editing a prompt
Turn a rough instruction into a clearer draft while retaining control over the final change.
In this article
Before you begin
Open AI agents and select the agent you want to edit. Check its name and workspace before saving: other agents have their own settings.
Step by step
- 1
Describe the intended improvement
Ask for a concrete change, such as making uncertainty handling explicit or shortening repetitive style rules.
- 2
Review the proposal
Compare suggested additions, removals or replacements with your actual business process. Reject invented capabilities and policy promises.
- 3
Keep knowledge separate
Move long reference text to Knowledge rather than expanding the prompt with a full catalog or manual.
- 4
Save and test
Apply only the changes you understand, save the agent and test representative questions, including a refusal or unknown answer.
Review the proposed change before applying it
Select the passage you want to improve for focused help, or leave the full prompt in focus for a broader review. State the outcome you want: shorten the response style, clarify uncertainty handling or remove a contradiction. Include a harmless example of the failure when it helps.
Inspect the proposal’s current text and replacement. Check whether it changes a business rule, invents a tool or introduces a promise such as an immediate refund. Accept only the part you understand. A polished sentence is not independent evidence that your business can do what it says.
If the text was changed while a proposal was being prepared, review the current passage again. Avoid applying a replacement to a different selection merely because the wording looks similar. Use the editor’s selection controls to check the intended location.
Examples of useful requests
Ask for a specific improvement and define what must stay true. Review all suggested text against the actual agent configuration.
- “Rewrite this section to admit missing dimensions and ask which variant the visitor means. Do not invent a size.”
- “Remove duplicate style rules while keeping the requirement to answer in the visitor’s language.”
- “Find contradictions between these handoff rules. Do not add new tools or support promises.”
- “Make this instruction easier to test and suggest three boundary scenarios.”
A proposal, a test and a saved agent are different states
Applying a proposal updates the editing draft. Test draft evaluates a snapshot. The agent’s save action persists reviewed settings. Keep these steps distinct and check the visible save feedback before leaving the page.
If the suggestion improves style but weakens factual accuracy, reject that tradeoff. Compare the same regression scenarios and inspect sources rather than judging the change only by how natural the response sounds.
Good to know
Prompt assistance generates a draft. It cannot verify your business policies or enable a tool that is disabled in configuration.
Check the result
Save, start a fresh test conversation and compare the answer with your approved business facts. Settings do not rewrite messages already sent.
Questions & troubleshooting
The proposed text contradicts an existing rule
Resolve the contradiction before saving. Keep one clear instruction for the same behavior.
